In 1976, in the year of Theofil Tuminski's passing, The United States celebrated the Bicentennial of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. His eldest daughter, age 25, immediately ascended the throne as Elizabeth II and her coronation was on June 2 1953. In 1952, this person was 39 years old when on February 6th, George VI of England died from a coronary thrombosis and complications due to lung cancer. The next day, the blacklist was created and they were fired. Ten Hollywood writers and directors had refused to testify to the Committee regarding "Communists" or "Reds" in the movie industry. In 1947, this person was 34 years old when on November 25th, the Hollywood "Black List" was created by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). No one, on either side, ever faced jail time. The next day, union miners killed 23 strikebreakers and mine guards. Three union workers were killed when gunfire was exchanged. The striking miners were outraged at the strikebreakers (scabs) that the company had brought in and laid siege to the mine. In 1922, Theofil was only 9 years old when on June 22, coal miners in Herrin Illinois, were on strike (coal miners had been on strike nationally since April 1). Less than 1% of the population was subject to income tax. Rates rose to 7% for incomes over half a million dollars. With the passage of the 16th Amendment, incomes of couples exceeding $4,000, as well as those of single persons earning $3,000 or more, were subject to a 1% Federal tax (that would be about $98,000 and $74,000 now). Previously, customs duties (tariffs) and excise taxes were the primary sources of federal revenue. In 1913, in the year that Theofil Tuminski was born, ratified in February the 16th Amendment, establishing a Federal income tax, became law.
